Respect

R E S P E C T
a willingness to show consideration or appreciation

If you Google the definition of respect you'll find numerous definitions but I like the one above. I think it fits most situations in which we discuss RESPECT.

Respect is a very important word. It can be shown to a person to display your admiration for them, for the job they do, the skills they posess, or for simple acts of kindness they make daily.
When you feel respected, respect those around you, and live a respectful life; you live a good one.

Click Here for Rodney Dangerfield via YouTube

Rodney Dangerfield had an entire comedy routine around not getting any respect.
The irony is that he was very well respected for his unique sense of humor and style.
His comedy wasn't always respectful but it always brought a good laugh.

Click Here for Aretha Franklin - 1967 "Respect"

Aretha Franklin sang about respect & this song has just as much play time today as it did then.
It's so popular, it's been sung by many others.
I wonder what Ottis Redding was thinking when writing this song.
I should Google that.

Respect My Authoritah! - Click Here

Just hearing Cartman's famous, "Respect My Authoritah!" brings back some interesting memories.
The irony here being that Cartman was typically not respectful by any means & I don't think anybody respected his authoritah - HaHa!

Budweiser Commercial - Respect
Superbowl XXXVI commercial in February 2002.
One of my all time favorite commercials. I think for most of us it's difficult to watch this quick 1 minute spot without tearing up. It's simple with no spoken words yet it speaks volumes to Americans.

Education on Respect - Excellent & Cute Video
With numerous definitions of respect, it's not always easy to teach children about it.
In this video, School Counselor Rob, does an excellent job and its a cute video to teach children respect. He wraps it up very well, "If you respect people, they will respect you."
I can think of a few adults who may need to view this as a refresher, can you?

That was a fun trip through YouTube! Try it some time!
I'll leave you with this..Respect is similar to Trust!
You should give respect open and freely.
If you lose respect for someone, they should have to earn it back.
In your actions or words through each day, you should be sure they are respectful actions or words.

  1. Here is a recent posting I found on FB. Sorry, I don't know the source. A person does not always deserve the disrespect they are shown, and it can leave painful scars.
"You can't force a person to show you respect,
but you can refuse to be disrespected! "
