How did I forget?

I can't believe the very next day after I decide to blog every day, I forget. So, what the heck happened? Well, I have a sick husband. It's my fault so I really can't complain. Being allergic to my surroundings, I am used to getting sinus infections and bronchitis. Thankfully I am a healthy person so with a zpack and some green tea, I can usually be well over a weekend. My poor husband rarely ever gets sick and I think this is the first time he has ever gotten a sinus infection since I've known him. He kept me up all night Tuesday. By the time I had a moment to sit down last night...I was done & boy did I ever sleep well.

Ladies...whether you are a girlfriend, Mom, wife, sister, I am sure you can relate to this next statement...why do men become boys when they are sick? Women motor thru and would prefer to be left alone. Men become so needy and unable to do the simplest thing because "I'm sick". Okay in all fairness, I am sure some ladies are like that too.

Fellas..if your Mom's told you we would feel important because you need us, like you need your mommies, when you're sick..they lied. They just wanted to pass that chore to your wife.

I did get my tablet PC back yesterday. A notable benefit of a tablet; it's more time efficient. It took me a little over two hours to boot her up, load my virus protection, load my Office, and load Motocast. Tonight I will hook her up to my external drive and load the important docs, music, and pics. I sure hope it doesn't take another two hours. I am excited to get some of my favorite tunes on my tablet. Google Play is great but you can't play all your purchases without a WiFi or mobile connection.

Have a wonderful day today and take some time to sit back and be thankful for something. I will be thankful for my sweet hubs...even if he is sick ;0)

Social Media & Bad Behavior

Now that social media has been around for awhile, have you noticed a change in behaviors? At first it was all about reconnecting with people, staying up to date on local events, and posts were generally positive & fun. Minding our manners, we were polite and it was okay to disagree. We kept the bummer news offline with close friends and family. When we wanted to break up with someone, we told them in person. Heck, when we dated we actually had conversations and not via text. Now people de-friend, block, or delete to make a point. I hand it to all of you who are single, I wouldn't want to do it again. I count myself lucky every day for my husband and I relationship.

When did it become okay to call complete strangers terrible names? Or to insult someone's intelligence just because they have a difference in opinion.

At the same time, the benefit is that you can get down to the nitty gritty of a person's character by there social media style. No longer do we have to "learn the hard way"! But that's a post for another day.

P.S. 30 Day Android Challenge: Day 9 - my tablet PC will be back tomorrow. Very impressive Dell! That was less than a week. I will have to break my challenge so I can make sure everything works and to load my programs back on. Maybe the challenge will be to continue a daily post for the rest of the 30 days. You know what they say, "do something for 30 days and it becomes a habit."

30 Day Challenge: Day 8

Another successful day using only my androids. Of course at work I have to use a PC but I am too busy working. I don't have time to waste surfing FB at work.

Today I had a special request to remove a photo from FB. My Facebook friend didn't care for a picture of them. I thought it was a beautiful pic myself. Of course, my friend had asked me before and I kept forgetting. I rarely ever go on FB on a PC. My phone won't let me delete photos from FB. Nexus 7 to the rescue again. Jumped right on, found the pic, and viola! deleted. Woohoo..friend happy & job is done.

On a side note, we picked up a mountain bike for my husband tonight. I'm looking forward to our next ride. It's the perfect time of year to ride bikes. We'll invest in a rack real soon.

Hope you had a great Monday too!

30 Day Android Challenge: Day 7

Well I cheated a little today. I wanted to check on my 401k. The tablet wouldn't let me go to a desktop version and the mobile version has limited options. Interesting because I could only get the PC version for my bank. Trying to stay true to my challenge I didn't use a PC myself. I asked the hubs to do it. I know, still kind of cheating right?

On the flip side, I found a great app for a camera and video camera for free. It works great and easy to use because it's the same as my cell.

I am adding some much needed decor to my backyard today. We're coming up on some cooler evenings & it will only get better. In the summer we can't spend any time back there because the sun is brutal. Fall and Spring we spend a ton of time out back grilling and hanging by the fire pit. Our yard has zero shade so we decided to use the portable sport tent. We got some chair cushions on sale. I can't believe they are clearing out patio for Christmas already. We picked up a small fountain feature for half price and some mums. I love mums. I had a great little mum garden in my yard when Lucy was a puppy. She stole them 1 by 1 and would prance around the yard so proud of herself. It was difficult to punish her because she was so darn cute. These mums will stay out of reach. Come to think of it, the other pup did the same thing with my pineapple plants.

Well, back to my backyard on a budget work. I will post before and after pics once I'm done.

30 Day Android Challenge: Day 6

I am a little under the weather unfortunately, so after a few morning errands, I decided on some tablet time. I am having a blast with this thing. I love it's smaller size. The 10.1 Samsung I tried last year was too big. This 7" fits perfect in both hands or just one. I love how quickly I can type because it's QWERTY keyboard is just like the one in my phone.

Last night my Dad and I tried out the Google Talk video chat. He has the same tablet and just got his too. They had a poor WiFi connection from their vaca spot for the weekend and it was still pretty good. We also learned we can audio chat. This is a great second option to a phone, as long as you have WiFi. I checked the Talk app on my phone and it does not include the audio or video chat features. Must only be available with Jelly Bean.

I haven't figured out how I will add my music and movies over without a PC yet. I may just have to wait until my 30 day challenge is up. I did buy a few movies and magazines with my Google Play credit. If you download them, they are available without WiFi.

I wonder if I will find something new for the next 24 days and if I will be as happy as an Android then as I am now.

30 Day Android Challenge - Day 5

It only seems fitting to take a moment to talk about the all new iPhone 5, and not because I ran to buy one. I had an epiphany this week as I listened to all the hype about the newest iPhone. See, it baffles me why people swear by their iPhone and Apple products yet they are also usually the first to complain about them. I also don't understand why people are so willing to spend so much of there hard earned money on an inferior product. This week it came to me. They stay in the cult because they have already invested so much money they can't possibly admit the mistake and start over with Android. LOL!

Now, in all seriousness, I know several people who are highly intelligent individuals and love their Apple products. I loved my iPod until I got my RAZR. I looked at a Mac and it does look fun. Depending on the work you do, I can see where you could prefer Mac over PC.

Personally, I am a PC and an Android. I love my Windows tablet for work, financial business. I love my Android phone because it's compatible with everything (except text messages from my Sister's iPhone). I love my new Google android tablet. I can use the same charger for all of them so fewer cables to travel with. I can sync everything virtually and even access the hard drive on my computer from anywhere via a nifty Motorola app. I am extremely happy being a PC and a droid. :0)

So, in all fairness to my friends and followers, whether we are android or Apple, I understand why we love them the way we do.

Are you an Apple or an Android? and why?

30 Day Android Challenge - Day 4

My Google tablet came today. It has Jelly Bean on it and my phone is just on Ice Cream Sandwich (such fun names). Anyway, the buttons are slightly different so it's going to take a moment to adjust. Regardless, I am flying along.

I want to take a moment to tell you about this tablet. 7" is a great size for someone who already has a very portable computer. This is going to be my new favorite travel companion. I will carry it every day just like my phone. It was so easy to get started. I added my Google accounts and everything loaded; my apps, pics, music, contacts. There were a few apps I needed to add like Facebook and Blogger but overall I am all set in less than 30 minutes.

Google came through as promised with a preloaded copy of Transformers and as soon as I activated the tablet, I received my $25 credit for Google play.

Well I am off to dinner and then checking out this tablet some more. Hope you all have a great night!

30 Day Android Challenge - Day 3

Today I really found myself missing "Ol Blue". I can't say there was any particular reason though. I think it has more to do with screen size. If you know me at all, you know I LOVE my Motorola Razr. For a cellphone, it's a great size with a 4.3" display, excellent battery life, beautiful pictures and superb sound for my tunes. Thing is, I don't enjoy scrolling, pinching, and jumping from app to app when it comes to paying bills or researching things for school. So, Google to the rescue! Tomorrow I will receive my Nexus 7 Google tablet. I let my ipod get too hot in the boat awhile back and it exploded. I hadn't bothered to replace it since my phone does everything I needed an ipod for and much much more. With a plane ride and road trip coming up, I realized what I used my ipod for the most. I have a few digital movies that make traveling more enjoyable. The laptop battery only lasts 2 hrs and I like to save my phone battery for....wait for it...actually making calls. LOL! The ipod was great for playing games, watching movies, and reading books during travel. Staying true to my Android challenge, I decided to give the Nexus 7 a try. It's small enough to slide in my purse and hopefully just big enough to do everything else without too much scrolling, pinching, and toggling.

Oh no! I think I might have to break my challenge! How will I load my movies without using a pc? I may have to skip my travel favs, Fast & Furious series, a few live concerts, and the Twilight series. Yes I just admitted to loving the Twilight movies. I guess I will watch the latest installment of Transformers since it comes pre-loaded on the Nexus and use the $25 Play credit that I received to purchase a new travel fav.

What is your travel "must have"?

30 Day Android Challenge - Day 2

What a morning! I woke up early and checked FB, priorities people! A friend and I are traveling in a few weeks and I still needed to find a pet friendly hotel in the Ft. Walton Beach area. My Android was fast and easy! I found an app for a hotel chain known for being pet friendly without an outrageous fee. I will admit...I called to make the actual reservation vs booking thru the app. I wanted to confirm the pet policy and advise of a late ck in. Next, I checked two shipments I am waiting on, then my banking info (there's an app for all that..sweet).  I need to pay some bills but feel so out of sorts without my infamous spreadsheet. Today's lunch time task, create a new one.

My 30 day Android Challenge

Why am I doing a 30 day android challenge?

Over the weekend the hard drive in my tablet pc decided to move on to a better place. Fortunately for me, I still had 40 days of warranty left. Whew..(hand wipes forehead).. I just barely got in on that warranty. While the pc is away I have decided to challenge myself to use nothing but android for all my personal technology needs.

Day 1
I made sure to backup all my files to my external drive. First thing this morning I had that "oh $#@%" moment. Did I send a copy of that to my email? NOoooo..I didn't.
Lesson #1 -
Ask family members what they may need over the next 30 days before final restore or you might find yourself trying to create a resume for your spouse on Google docs.

Celebrities and Social Media

Okay folks, for fun, I just have to share some observations I’ve made about celebrities and social media. I have a select few celebrities I follow. I have a rule, it’s got to be someone that I love what they do now and what made them a celebrity to begin with (music, movies, t.v., sports). They need to do something else with their lives, something meaningful. Basically, they need to be good people who take what they’ve been fortunate enough to earn in life and use it to help those less fortunate.  There are a few others I follow for the laughs they offer on a daily basis.

So, why do we follow them?
It’s fascinating isn’t it. They are intriguing. We want to see what they are like when they are just being themselves, when they are normal, everyday people, just like you and me. If you are like me, you may comment or like but you know they most likely won’t receive your comment or like. I mean, could you imagine having 500,000 or over a million people tweeting you, posting to you, commenting on your posts, liking your pictures? Do our cellphones even have enough battery charge in a day to keep up with that many notifications? If anything I feel guilty, every comment or tweet I make is one more they have to sift through to read the ones from their actual friends and family. No wonder so many of them don't read them or have a team to do so.
By the way, I'm for hire for that job...LOL! I kid. I'm not sure I'd want to see all those sides of people.

How about some of the stuff people post; I think I would be hiding out in my house if I did read some of these things. Let’s laugh at some of them, shall we:

One of my all time favorites – when I read this one I died laughing and at the same time had a totally disgusted look on my face (yes, it’s possible, just wait)

“you’re so hot, I want to eat your face off”
Hey chic, I don’t know what bath salts you’ve been sniffing lately but that is extremely off mark. I can also 99.99% guarantee, your celeb is the last person you’ll ever hear from after a comment like that.

Some more good ones:

“I’ve sent you a tweet every hour of every day for the last 1 billion years,
could you please just re-tweet me”
Hmmm…nothing better to do with your life?

“It would make my birthday if you sent me a tweet”
Wonder what your significant other who just spent a small fortune on your bday gift would think if they knew all they had to do is tweet you “Happy Birthday” and then sign your fav celeb’s name instead of their own. LOL!

“I love you. Will you marry me” – Right because people typically do it that way.

“Why don’t you ever notice me” – Oh, I don't know..because I'm busy entertaining trillions of people around the world & on my off time I'm running charities and helping people who actually need something they are lacking in life; like clothing, food, shelter.

“When are you going to come visit me”
“take me with you”
Maybe because they are people, just like you and me, with friends and family to visit or take.

“I just found out XX doesn’t even read these and here I’ve been trying to connect with them all this time”
They already have a job and news flash, it's not reading trillions of social media items.

I think it’s so funny to read some of these. It’s quite entertaining. I don’t get a lot of time to read this stuff, I have a hard enough time keeping up with my own profiles, posts, comments, and tweets but when I have a moment to catch up on my social media I am amazed at how, well, at how pathetic some people are. In a way, it’s worse than the paparazzi. Instead of being needy fan stalkers, how about being respectful fans who appreciate the simple fact they have even provided us with the privilege to have a look within their fascinating lives. Instead of telling them we want to “eat their face off” hahaha cracks me up..how about supporting their charities and helping them do good by getting behind the causes they support.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my little rant. I would love to hear some of your favorites, things you’ve read and wondered “what the heck” or laughed out loud about.
